 Defective Thinking

News articles about shoddy and defective construction are abundant in the media.  The article, "Defective Thinking," in the November 2009 issue of Builder sheds light on the public's perception in the media about the quality of today's residential construction.  

 Unfortunately, many builders (including large, nation-wide builders) do not have proper quality control mechanisms built into their construction practices.  Water intrusion, dry rot and structural damage are often the result.  As the article points out, today's consumers have very little tolerance for defective products, especially their homes.

The Energy Trust of Oregon is offering incentives of $2.25 per square foot for ENERGY STAR qualified windows. U-Value must be 0.30 or lower. Windows must be installed with a second complete measure. Thermal upgrades (attic/ceiling insulation, floor insulation, or wall insulation) must meet all program specifications and requirements to qualify as a second complete measure. Duct/Air sealing must meet maximum incentive amount to qualify as a second measure.
